General Studies or Mata Pelajaran Pengajian Umum (MPU)
The Ministry of Education Malaysia has officially announced the offering of General Studies or Mata Pelajaran Pengajian Umum (MPU) to replace the Malaysian National Subjects (MNS) for all private higher education institutions in Malaysia, including Monash University Malaysia.
Effective from 1 September 2013, all new international and Malaysian undergraduate students must enrol, undertake and complete General Studies as a prerequisite for the award of a Bachelor Degree. For Malaysian citizens in particular, it is compulsory to pass General Studies.

The General Studies comprises four broad categories namely:
- MPU U1 : Appreciation of philosophy, values and history
- MPU U2 : Mastery of soft skills
- MPU U3 : Broadening of knowledge in Malaysia
