Monash Arts Immersion Program and Scholarship Competition

The School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) at Monash University Malaysia will host the Monash Arts Immersion Program and Scholarship Contest from 10-14 June, 2019, for Monash University Foundation Students (MUFY) students  from Sunway College.

This event exposes the participants to an in-depth introduction to the diverse Arts and Social Sciences disciplines that are available for study at SASS. Each day is themed around one of the SASS major/minors, namely Communication, Global Studies, Gender Studies, Film, Television and Screen Studies and Writing. Each session comprised of a learning activity that introduces participants to key ideas in that discipline, an assessment activity to demonstrate application of these ideas and concepts, and a briefing on the typical course structure for that major/minor.

Daily assessment activities will award prizes to winning groups, and group members will vary from day to day. Points awarded from each day’s assessment activity will be tabulated to determine overall winners for three 0.5 EFTSL Monash University Malaysia Scholarships and cash prizes. All participants will also receive a goody bag.

DayMajor/MinorSession Details
MondayFilm, Television and Screen StudiesThis session will introduce participants to major concepts in film analysis, and discuss how they are applied in The Journey (2014), which will be screened during this session.
TuesdayGender StudiesThis session will introduce participants to key concepts in gender and sexuality studies, and apply them to unpack gender ideologies in popular culture.
WednesdayCommunicationThis session will introduce participants to communication methods and techniques, including an analysis of the #changeit campaign.
ThursdayGlobal StudiesThis session will introduce participants to ethical questions in world politics, through the example of debates around humanitarian intervention.
FridayWritingThis session will introduce participants to different types of short stories, and their associated forms and conventions.

Eligibility:                                                        

Monash Arts Immersion Program and Scholarship Contest is open to all MUFY students from Sunway College. Students must participate in all five days in order to be eligible for the overall scholarship prize(s).

To be eligible for the contest, the student must pre-register by Wednesday, 5 June 2019, by sending their RSVP to www.monash.edu.my/arts-competition

Judging Criteria

Specific criteria is provided for each day’s activity, overseen by the SASS academic staff leading the day’s activity. Other SASS academic and professional staff may be included as activity judges.

Winner Selection/Notification:

The top accumulated points from the 5 rounds will be awarded the winner, announced at the closing event on the final day. All judges’ decisions are final.

The Organiser reserves the right to amend, terminate or add on to the terms and conditions at any time by placing a notice at the relevant website or any designated area.

The winners agree to allow Monash University Malaysia and its advertising and promotional agencies to publish his/her name and/or photographs and/or participating pictures and/or videos or any parts thereof without further compensation and notice.

Please note that the eligibility of scholarship prizes is dependent on meeting the School's entry requirements for its various degree courses. Failure to do so would automatically disqualify the winning

Prizes

Thematic day prizes
The winning group/individual from each day’s activities will receive a day prize, ranging from movie vouchers, coffee vouchers, book tokens, etc.

First prize
50% scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia and a cash prize of RM3,000.

Second prize
50% scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia and a cash prize of RM2,000.

Third Prize
50% scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia and a cash prize of RM1,000.
