Exemption and/or Credit Transfer Related Matters

Application of Exemption Process for MPU U1

  • A student can apply for an exemption for each unit in each category based on the following conditions:
  • A student has enrolled, undertaken, completed & passed these units based in another public or private higher learning institution prior before joining Monash University Malaysia;
  • A student has enrolled, undertaken, completed & passed these units with a minimum 50% grade or mark at the same level of study internally and / or externally, and;
  • A student has submitted a formal application with related & completed documentation to seek for exemption through the General Studies Office in Monash University Malaysia.
  • Exemptions will be processed and granted based on a case-by-case basis.

A student seeking for an exemption for MPU U1 on the basis of a qualification awarded by Monash University Australia

  • Exemption will not be granted for the particular student.
  • This is because when a student is enrolled in a private higher learning institution in Malaysia, a student is bound by the Private Higher Education Act 1996 (Act 555).

A student seeking for an exemption for MPU U1 after undertaking, completed and passed all Malaysian National Subjects (MNS with MPW unit codes)

  • Exemption will not be granted for the particular student.
  • This is because these units are taught and delivered previously prior before General Studies was introduced.

A student seeking for an exemption for MPU U1 after enrolling, undertaken, completed and passed MPU U1 at a Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level obtained from another Malaysian Public or Private higher learning institution

  • Exemption will not be granted for the particular student.
  • This is because the MPU U1 units are taught at different levels and not similar / parallel level of study or course based on Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualifications Agency's requirements.

A student seeking for an exemption National Language A after undertaking, completing and passed General Certificate of Education (GCE) O-Level Malay by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Malay by University of Cambridge International Examinations.

  • Exemption will not be granted for that particular student.
  • This is because both of these examined subjects are not deemed equivalent to SPM Bahasa Melayu as guided by circular KP.LP.003.04.8.Jld.4 (410/13) issued by Examinations Syndicate, Ministry of Education Malaysia dated 24 April 2013.

Application of Exemption Process Flow

  • The process of exemption is further explained in the figure below:
  1. Obtain & submit a copy of Application for Exemption Form (EXF GS) from General Studies Office.
  2. General Studies Office processes the Application for Exemption Form (within 10 working days).
  3. Application of Exemption is  SUCCESSFUL or UNSUCCESSFUL.
  4. Successful exemption application will automatically appear in WES > Credit Advanced Standing with the GRANTED status.

Students may download & print the relevant forms from Forms section. Kindly ensure that all related & relevant documents are completed before submitting for exemption to the General Studies Office at 2-6-44.
