Spending your semester break
Semester break is finally here! With finals over, the time has come to enjoy the abundant “no stress” and free time. Be it sunny or rainy, reconnecting with the world during a break is like a light at the end of the tunnel.
So what are you going to do? Visit friends and family? Turn into a couch potato the entire break? Get a head start on the new semester by hitting the books? Chill lah!
Let’s look at five things you can do during your semester break.
1. Update resume / Apply for internship
Let’s start off with something responsible and beneficial for you - piling up on that experience column on your resume.
Interning for a local business pays. Even if college credit isn’t available, finding the right position can still give you a good experience. During that time, you will also be able to build your network and make business contacts. This definitely gives you the edge when job hunting later.
2. Volunteer
This is an excellent time for charitable work. Whether it’s visiting a nursing home, organising a gift drive or working the phones for a local non-profit organisation, volunteering is a good way to help others while sharpening life skills. The cherry on top - it’ll make your resume look a lot better too.
3. Unwind on a trip
Since you have been busting your brains the entire semester to get your assignments and university work done, it may be time to really relax. Take a road trip, stand under the waterfall, go on a scary rollercoaster ride, explore a new state - go with the objective of unwinding. Embrace it while you can. Once you start working full time, you may not be able to indulge in such luxuries.
4. Catch up with some old friends
Have you been constantly saying “no” to hangouts with your old buddies? Especially in the case where everyone is just too far away to make regular reunions? Your semester break is the perfect time to spend some quality time with them.
5. Catch up on some reading
And by reading, we mean the kind you actually enjoy, not your required reading for uni. Pick up a book because it looks interesting, cozy up and get lost in another world.
Enjoy your break. We look forward to seeing a rejuvenated you back on campus when semester begins!
