FAQ - General Studies
Students enrolled at Monash University Malaysia are required by the Ministry to successfully enrol in and complete General Studies The General Studies units can broaden students' knowledge and experience of Malaysia as well as engage them with issues relevant to Malaysia. Requirements for General Studies: -
- You should enrol in U1. You can only get an exemption for U1 (National Language A) if you have a credit "C" grade in SPM Bahasa Melayu and have completed your General Studies requirements at another institution.
- At Monash University Malaysia, units within our various degrees have been recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as meeting the U2, U3, and U4 General Studies requirements. This is to ensure that students complete their courses on time and meet the General Studies unit requirements.
The general studies units are considered separate from your course. You can take the full four units in your course and still take additional unit in your general studies.
You can send us details on units you have taken that qualify for an exemption for General studies and we will liaison with the General studies unit for your exemption. Please refer to the General studies FAQ on their website link here for more details on units qualifying for an exemption.

You can take your General Studies unit any time it is offered. You just need to complete it before you graduate.
