Why did you choose Monash?
I was interested in the research project offered by Associate Professor Dr Ong Chin Eng back then, and by considering the University’s reputation, its world ranking and well-established research infrastructure, I decided to enroll in Monash.
Did you participate in any student activities or opportunities?
I would like to thank the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, School of Pharmacy and the campus for providing the travel funds to postgraduate students in Monash Malaysia. Using student travel funds, I have attended two local and one international conferences to present my research findings, where I also got to interact with the other researchers from different universities and industries, as well as attending several interesting and informative talks.
What insights, skills or experience made a difference to your own life or the lives of others around you?
The PhD journey at Monash has not only broadened my knowledge but also improved my research skills in the field of pharmacology. As a PhD student by research, I have learned how to work independently and communicate effectively with supervisors and peers, and I have also developed better critical thinking skills. I hope my research findings on drug-natural products interaction will benefit the community, especially the elderly.
What did you enjoy most about your student life?
I met many good souls at Monash and we have shared many treasured moments. I will remember the small talks we used to have over lunch, the coffees and the chocolates! I also loved the activities organised by the Monash University Postgraduate Association (MUPA), where I got to meet friends from other disciplines while enjoying free food and stress-relieving activities.
What is your career goal?
I hope to figure out a way to extend the human lifespan through gene therapy.
What is your advice to Monash students?
Study is a lifelong learning process. Research is a passion. Keep trying and never give up, you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.
