Tell us briefly about your work or role in your current organisation.
I currently work at Samsung Malaysia Electronics as a Senior Professional in Product Marketing in the Internet and Mobile division. Product Marketing in Samsung Malaysia is divided into two teams, the device marketing team and the content and services marketing team. I am part of the Content and Services marketing team, managing an application called Samsung Members. My work encompasses making business partnerships, managing the communication channels both ATL and BTL and planning for the app.
How has your study in Monash Malaysia helped to prepare you for the working world?
The most useful experience I had from my studies in Monash Malaysia is presentation skills. Most of the units in the MCMS course required major presentations. Projects that had presentations as assessment helped me build public speaking confidence. A big part of my current job requires closing deals with external and internal stakeholders and nailing an important presentation helps with this. Something as simple as presentation assessments also helped with working in teams and managing people, which is essential in my day-to-day work. Besides that, writing papers during my MCMS course helped me improve my time management skills in order to meet deadlines. This is crucial when it comes to my role at Samsung. Everyday, there are deadlines to meet and stakeholders to please.
Whilst at Monash, what type of opportunities did you participate in, for example internship/industry placement, student exchange or clubs/societies?
I had the one-of-a-kind opportunity to join the Study Trip to Yangon, Myanmar during my studies at Monash. This opportunity really helped in keeping an open mind, specifically with dealing with stakeholders.
What do you love most about your student life at Monash?
The best part about my student life in Monash are the people I had the pleasure to meet. My lecturers during the course, specifically Dr. Yeoh and Dr. Tan Meng Yoe were great mentors. Studying in Monash was made better by lecturers who were open to provide help and mentorship whenever needed. My course mates and travel buddies are great people who I had to share many unforgettable experiences with. My time in Monash was amazing because it was shared with people who are open to share experiences.
