Please tell us about your role in your current organisation.
I am currently working at DKSH Technology Sdn Bhd as an Application Specialist for the Scientific Instrumentation Business Line. My role in the company is to provide pre- and post-sales technical application support to the customer based on our wide-range product portfolio, sample testing in the lab, product demonstrations and application training, and method development for the customer’s applications.
Why did you choose Monash?
The decision was simple; Monash University Malaysia is a prestigious university, well known for its reputation as a research university and is ranked in the world’s top 100.
Did you participate in any student activities or opportunities?
I had the opportunity to participate in the various field trips made available to Tropical Biology students and also in the Monash Cup organised by the Monash University Student Association (MUSA).
Did you go for any internships or work placements?
Yes, I did an internship at Halvec Laboratories, a testing lab focusing on Halal testing. I was able to apply the skills and experience I obtained from carrying out tests and operating instruments in the following semesters to come as well as in my workplace today.
What did you enjoy most about your student life?
The friendships made along the journey and not forgetting the awesome field trips which were part of the Tropical Biology’s unit course outline.
Apart from work or study, were you able to build your interest in areas such as volunteering, mentoring other students, or other educational pursuits?
Yes, I was very interested in the education provided in the BIO units and chose to sign up as a member for the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). I was actively joining the activities organised by MNS during the weekends.
Have those experiences made a difference in the way you approach your work and your career?
Yes, it prepared me in the way I approach certain situations and tackle issues faced while having a mindset to accept criticisms openly to improve myself continuously.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to elevate the experience and skills I obtain here at DKSH Technology Sdn Bhd as an Application Specialist and enable myself to provide support at a regional level.
What is your advice to current Monash students?
Hone your skills, especially soft skills and social skills as these are the most important when going into the working world. As a university student, we are always tied down by assignment deadlines. You must properly manage your time as deadlines are very well existent in the working world. Last but not least, surround yourself with good friends as they make the most difficult times more bearable.
